Zeiss unveiled six new, full frame (24x36mm format) prime lenses for Canon and Nikon mounts. The Milvus lenses will arrive in ZE (Canon) or ZF.2 (Nikon) mounts with manual focus.
The Zeiss Milvus lenses were designed for the new generation of DSLR full frame cameras with higher resolution sensors. Flange focal depth of the Canon mount is 44 mm, and Nikon is 46.50 mm. The initial release of focal lengths, more to come, debuts in the 2.8/21, 2/35, 1.4/50, 1.4/85, Macro 2/50M and Macro 2/100M formats.
The Milvus is basically a reboot of the Zeiss Classic line with higher resolution and better contrast. The Milvus lenses feature a rubberized focus ring, an all-metal barrel, a metal lens shade, and are protected against dust and minor water penetration. Milvus lenses support aperture priority, shutter priority, program and manual modes, as well as EXIF lens data.
As full-frame camera lenses, Zeiss Milvus lenses also enable high-quality film recordings with soft and cinematic bokeh. With their high contrast rendition and low level of stray light, the lenses meet the latest video standards such as HDR (High Dynamic Range) and resolutions of 6K and more. They new set also claim to display uniform color characteristics across all focal lengths. All six Zeiss Milvus lenses have long rotation angles of the focus ring for precise focusing. The ‘de-click’ function in the ZF.2 mount lenses allows filmmakers to adjust the aperture freely and smoothly, enabling professional results even in changing light conditions.
