Spotlight: BladeRunner 2049 Prequels

In a deft marketing move, Warner Bros. will be issuing three prequels before the release of Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the groundbreaking science-fiction film, starring Harrison Ford. The prequels are said to bring the audience up to speed with the world that writers Hampton Fancher & David Peoples and director Ridley Scott created in 1982. The first prequel, directed by Ridley Scott’s son, Luke, and with an introduction by Blade Runner 2049’s director, Denis Villeneuve, stars Jared Leto, as Niander Wallace.

Niander Wallace introduces a new line of perfected replicants called the Nexus 9, seeking to get the prohibition on replicants repealed.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. Officer K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Harrison Ford, rehashing his role as Rick Deckard, a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years. Welcome to 2036…

Fast-forward to 2048, where Sapper Morton, played by Dave Bautista of Guardians Of The Galaxy fame, is a replicant on the run…

The Power and the Glory…about an outlaw priest trying to understand the meaning of being human. It’s one of my favorites…
